David Grof today signed a one-year deal at Walsall as boss Dean Smith's summer recruitment began.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper impressed after signing on a free from Notts County and made 25 appearances for the Saddlers last term.

He is the first to pledge his future to the club ahead of the June 19 deadline the Saddlers have set for their out-of-contract stars to decide their futures.

"I am delighted David has agreed to sign this new deal," said Smith. "We brought him in last summer as something of an unknown quantity in terms of playing first-team games, but he worked extremely hard and forced his way into the team.

"It's the first part of the jigsaw and I'm pleased David feels this is the place where his career can continue to develop and progress.

"Discussions are ongoing with our other out of contract players and I'm hopeful that there will be more news to follow in the days ahead."
