Mat Sadler today revealed his "dread" after Walsall suffered a survival body blow against Tranmere.

The left-back admitted he knew Andy Robinson would score before the winger struck his match-winning free-kick in Rovers' 1-0 win on Saturday.

Defeat left the Saddlers, who had Lee Beevers sent off late on, just three points above the League One drop zone with three games left.

And Sadler had an awful feeling Robinson would sink his team before he scored.

He said: "When the free-kick was awarded, in the position it was, I had a feeling of dread because I fancied him to score.

"That left us pretty ragged, because we were desperate to win and desperate to score a goal.

"There were a lot of positives to come out of it, but it's a defeat and leaves us in a position needing another win. It would have been nice to get it on Saturday."

Consecutive defeats have hit Walsall's survival bid and Sadler admitted they missed a big chance against Rovers, who guaranteed their own safety with victory.

He said: "It was against a team who were more or less safe and I think they would have folded if we scored."
