Bullish skipper Andy Butler today urged Walsall not to blow their golden survival chance and finish the job.

The Saddlers are four points clear of the League One drop zone with four games left – starting at home to Tranmere on Saturday.

Drop rivals Wycombe and Leyton Orient failed to cash in on Monday's 1-0 defeat at leaders Charlton – crashing 4-0 to Chesterfield and 3-0 to Exeter respectively.

It left 19th-placed Saddlers favourites to stay up ahead of Rovers' weekend visit and Butler predicted victory should seal survival.

He said: "It would be nice to get it done quickly, rather than wait until the last game of the season like last year. We'll hopefully get a result on Saturday and that will keep us where we deserve to be.

"We're not comfortable yet, we know that, but I'm sure if we get a result on Saturday – which we'll go all out to do – then we'll be safe.

"Wycombe would have to win three games to go above us – and our goal difference is an extra point so I think it would be alright. We were one point ahead of Wycombe and now it's four points so it's been a good Easter.

"I think we can get positive results out of the next two games and I think Exeter will be down by the time we go there (April 21).

"It was a good performance on Monday and we'll take confidence from it but we lost and we were still disappointed."

Orient, level on points with the Saddlers, go to promotion-chasing Sheffield United on Saturday and Wycombe host Oldham. Tranmere have eased to safety with five wins in eight games since Les Parry was sacked last month.
