Oliver Lancashire's injury-time equaliser rescued a point for Walsall as they struggled to a draw at 10-man Leyton Orient.

The defender atoned for his collision with David Grof – which handed Dean Cox the opener – with a header in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Solomon Taiwo was sent off after 38 minutes for chopping down Florent Cuvelier but the Saddlers stuttered in London.

They lacked ideas and inspiration and failed to test the 10-man O's in the second half before Lancashire's last gasp header.

But results elsewhere saw Dean Smith's men slip back into the League One drop zone ahead of Tuesday's visit of Sheffield United.

Walsall were unchanged meaning Adam Chambers failed to recover from a cut on his Achilles which kept him out of last weekend's 0-0 draw at Preston.

And after a subdued opening Grof had to be alert to block Kevin Lisbie's close-range header after 24 minutes as the teams cancelled each other out.

Kevan Hurst fired over soon after before the Saddlers handed Orient the lead on 35 minutes. Lisbie got between Lancashire and Grof and the pair collided inside the six-yard box as they tried to thwart the striker.

The ball ran to the unmarked Cox who took a touch and fired beyond the stranded Mat Sadler on the line.

But the Saddlers were handed a boost when substitute Taiwo – who replaced the injured Ryan Dickson after seven minutes – was given a straight red card by referee Andy D'Urso for a high challenge on Cuvelier.

The Belgian midfielder was left stricken on the half way line and returned to a chorus of boos from the angry home fans.

Will Grigg's weak header was comfortably saved by Stech with the O's untroubled before the break.

The hosts threw on former Walsall loanee Marc Laird for Jonathan Tehoue at half time to secure their midfield and they frustrated the Saddlers.

Walsall lacked the tempo and Alex Nicholls replaced Grigg as the visitors looked for a different outlet.

Jon Macken had claimed for a penalty waved away but it was Orient who nearly doubled their lead on the hour.

Lisbie burst through one-on-one with Grof but the keeper made himself big to deny the striker.

The Saddlers lacked ideas to break the stubborn hosts – who packed nine men behind the ball – down.

Mystifyingly, they failed to produce the urgency or tempo to open the O's up and goalkeeper Stech was a virtual spectator.

George Bowerman replaced Peterlin but still the Saddlers struggled to impose themselves or find any inspiration.

Jimmy Smith fired wide for Orient with 10 minutes remaining and only Grof's fine save denied the midfielder a second in injury time.

But the Saddlers launched a late rally and after Stech palmed over Taundry's strike Lancashire netted his first Walsall goal from the resulting corner.
