Walsall were left searching for an FA Cup tonic after Jon Nurse's stunner denied the 10-man Saddlers a second round win, writes Nick Mashiter.
Claude Gnakpa's first goal for the club put Walsall ahead 14 minutes from time but Nurse's 25-yarder levelled just five minutes later to force a replay.
And in the final minute of injury time substitute Ryan Jarvis was given a straight red card after the striker elbowed Michael Spillane.
Alex Nicholls and Jon Macken squandered fine chances for the visitors while Jimmy Walker's super save thwarted Brian Woodall in the first half.
Walsall struggled for long periods against the Daggers – second bottom of League Two – in a rough and tumble cup tie.
Middlesbrough loanee Andy Halliday was handed his full debut after Mark Wilson was recalled by Doncaster in the only change from last weekend's 0-0 draw at Stevenage.
Andy Butler made the bench after failing to train for the majority of the week because of a cyst behind his hamstring.
And defensive pairing Oliver Lancashire and Manny Smith were called on early as the hosts began brightly – forcing the Saddlers into several last-ditch clearances.
Woodall headed straight at Jimmy Walker from Damian Scannell's free kick after 11 minutes as the Saddlers switched off.
The Daggers – only kept off the bottom of League Two by crisis club Plymouth – visibly grew in confidence as they realised the hesitant Saddlers were ruffled.
They began to open the visitors up and only a superb one-handed stop from Walker denied Woodall on the half hour after the striker wriggled free 12-yards out.
A minute later Abu Ogogo's 35-yard looping header forced Walker to tip over and Peter Gain then nodded over.
The predictable Saddlers struggled to carve out meaningful chances and were out-battled by the Daggers.
Dagenham's rough and tumble style left Walsall reeling but they finally created a glorious opening a minute before half time.
Macken's raking ball found Nicholls unmarked but the winger snatched at the chance and his rising 12-yard drive was turned over by James Shea.
The Saddlers marginally improved after the break – as Dagenham's first half confidence eroded – but Macken blasted their best opening from 10-yards over on 59 minutes.
Smith's header was hacked away by Gain soon after and Will Grigg was inches away from connecting with Lee Beevers' cross.
George Bowerman replaced Grigg on 67 minutes and the substitute had a hand as the Saddlers broke the deadlock with 14 minutes left.
The striker's bustling work saw the ball fall to Sadler on the left and the left back's excellent deep cross found Gnakpa to crash in a header from seven yards.
But the lead lasted just five minutes as Nurse gave Lee Beevers the slip and struck a wonderful curling effort into the top corner from 20-yards.
And deep into injury time Jarvis – only on as an 85th minute substitute for Macken – was sent off after an elbow on former Norwich team-mate Spillane.
