Walsall striker George Bowerman today dedicated his first senior strike to his parents but admitted it was soured by another defeat.

The 20-year-old bagged his first Saddlers goal in the 4-2 loss to Bury on Saturday – hooking in a consolation in injury time.

Bowerman pointed to parents Angela and Alf in the crowd in celebration and insisted his late effort was for them.

He said: "It was a moment I've been waiting for a long time. Obviously, it wasn't an important goal because we lost but for me it's a personal achievement and I'm quite pleased with it.

"It was for my mum and dad, they have carried me so far – driving me up and down the motorway – so it was for them.

"They're always there every game – reserves, first team and youth team – and my little brother as well, Alex, I have got give him a mention."
