Relegation fear factor at Walsall inspiring Saddlers striker Jon Macken

Jon Macken today admitted the relegation fear factor is inspiring Walsall and pledged the Saddlers won't get sucked in.

The striker insisted he doesn't want a repeat of last season's Great Escape, when they beat the drop on the final day.

Walsall sit 20th in League One, a point above the bottom four, after just one win in 14 games in all competitions.

And Macken, who played in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup draw at Exeter, reckons another late show is out of the question.

He said: "I was in it last season, which wasn't nice. But we don't want to be in the same situation in April and May – we aim to be a lot further up the table.

"We know we've got enough quality in the team and the squad to push on to win games. I believe we can do it."
