Walsall are set to make a final call on trialist Michael Woods, boss Dean Smith revealed today.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been with the Saddlers for a month as he bids to win a deal at the Banks's Stadium.

Smith is still keen to boost his ranks, having been left frustrated in his search for a loan striker, and Woods faces D-Day tomorrow.

"Michael is still with us and we'll make a decision on him at the end of the week," said Smith. "He's played three or four games for us and he's done well so we'll have a look.

"He's still a young lad and gone for a lot of money in his career already."

The 21-year-old moved from Leeds to Chelsea – along with current Carlisle midfielder Tom Taiwo – for a combined £5m when they were 16 after United accused the Blues of making an illegal approach.
