You don't need a PhD to know Walsall need a win but the malaise which has enveloped the Saddlers can be dispelled with quick results – starting at home to Exeter.

It's not panic stations yet but Saturday's Wirral woes – a 2-1 defeat at Tranmere – left Walsall 17th in League One just three points ahead of tonight's second-bottom visitors.

The Saddlers have just one victory from the last 10 games – the 1-0 win against Preston in their last home outing.

Another three points tonight would at least dispel immediate fears and ever-present left-back Mat Sadler admits they must start producing.

He said: "It's not a must-win game, there's still a long way to go in the season. But Exeter at home, we will be looking to win without a shadow of a doubt."
