Walsall chief Dean Smith today challenged his shot-shy strikers to become worth their weight in goals.

The Saddlers are the joint fourth lowest scorers in League One with 11 goals in 11 games – although they have the eighth best defence in the division, despite lying 19th.

Jon Macken is sidelined with a hamstring injury for tomorrow's trip to Wycombe and Smith wants three-goal top scorers Will Grigg and Ryan Jarvis to start firing.

He said: "My forwards know they need to start chipping in with a few more goals and should they do that they'll earn more money. We'd like to have scored more goals than we've done. Goalscorers cost money in this county – (Wayne) Rooney and Darren Bent at Villa cost money and that's why the hardest thing in football is scoring a goal."
