Walsall manager Dean Smith today insisted trialist Michael Woods must boost his fitness but admitted the midfielder has "potential."
The ex-Chelsea youngster and former Brest defender Theophile Junior N'Tame are training with the Saddlers in a bid to win deals.
Woods, nephew of Walsall head of youth Neil, is in his first full week while N'Tame trained at Essington last week.
Woods and Tom Taiwo – now at Carlisle – went for a combined £5million after Chelsea settled out of court when Leeds accused them of poaching the duo in 2006.
Neither made a Premier League appearance and Woods, 21, was released by the Blues in the summer but Smith has seen flashes of class.
He said: "Michael went for a lot of money at a young age and has undoubted potential, but I have also said to him he needs to get fit."
