Angry Walsall manager Dean Smith today blasted his Saddlers flops and threatened to axe his under-performing stars.

Smith ripped into his men after they drew 2-2 with Scunthorpe in League One on Saturday – despite Will Grigg's wonder goal.

Walsall were denied a smash and grab win at the Banks's Stadium after Jimmy Ryan's injury-time leveller.

But, despite ending a three-match losing streak, Smith criticised his team.

He said: "If guys don't perform they will leave the football club and I'll bring someone else in who can. Simple as that.

"I'm not going to ship them all out but they have set the standards already and they didn't live up to them. I've told them I don't want to be associated with performances like that. We were awful.

"There were basic errors all over the pitch, we let players run off us, didn't win first balls, second balls and our passing and moving was non-existent.

"Our performance was poor and the only thing that lightened it was Will Grigg's goal."

Adam Chambers headed the ragged Saddlers ahead before Garry Thompson's first equaliser 11 minutes from time.

The draw left Walsall 16th in League One, five points off the play-off spots, and Smith admitted the Saddlers are suffering at home.

He said: "We don't seem to be able to find space at home, get it on the ball and move it quick enough."
