Dean Smith today insisted he will keep faith with his Walsall charges and hold fire on launching any early loan raids.

The window reopened today but boss Smith insisted the Saddlers have proved themselves and he will only move if they lose form.

But he has handed Italian schemer Lorenzo Pontrelli and former Wycombe midfielder Matt Richards a trial and the pair played in the reserves' 6-1 defeat at Derby last night.

Smith is ready to move when he needs to but, ahead of Saturday's trip to Notts County, ruled out any new arrivals.

He said: "At the moment I don't see myself bringing in anyone before the weekend. They have got to be better than what I've got and the players have been performing reasonably well."
