Walsall manager Dean Smith has hinted he is ready to keep faith with David Grof after the goalkeeper's winning start to his Saddlers career.

The 22-year-old could continue against Brentford tomorrow after replacing Jimmy Walker in the last two games.

Grof made his debut in last weekend's 2-0 win at Bournemouth, after Walker left the squad when his partner went into labour.

Walker, who is just 20 games short of equalling Colin Harrison's Walsall appearances record of 530, returned to the bench in Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Shrewsbury.

But, while he hasn't made a final decision, Smith admitted Grof could keep his place against the Bees.

The Saddlers boss said: "He's a young lad and wants to try to wrestle the No 1 mantle off 'Wacka,' which is going to be hard.

"Wacka is a legend at the football club but David's taken his chance really well. I wouldn't have any problems with him, not at all, if needs be he'll go in.

"We'll see how things progress. He's come in and done nothing wrong. He's made some good saves, saves I expect him to make, and his kicking was good.

"It's been a winning start for him."
