Walsall midfielder Richard Taundry today insisted he has finally harnessed his ability after admitting he failed to perform last season.

Taundry has made a super start to the campaign since reinventing himself during pre-season under manager Dean Smith.

The 22-year-old has earned rave reviews and bagged a stunning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory over Shrewsbury Town.

But Taundry admitted his form wasn't good enough last season, when Walsall beat the League One drop by a point.

He said: "It was something I needed to do as I wasn't happy with my performance last year.

"It's something we addressed and hopefully I can continue.

""I'm playing with a lot more confidence now."

Meanwhile, Jon Macken could return for Saturday's visit of Brentford after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.

Manager Dean Smith said: "We'll have a look at him to see if he's fit for Saturday and hopefully he will be.

"If not, we'll revert to what we've had."
