Boss Dean Smith has hailed Walsall's mental strength and insists the Saddlers are prepared for anything.

The Banks's Stadium chief reckons the squad are tougher following their Great Escape last season – which will prepare them for another League One slog.

He brought in eight new players in a summer revamp and believes they can handle the pressures of the season.

"You can help and guide them but they still have to do it themselves so it's credit to them if they are getting stronger," said Smith.

"They are a good set of lads, they are together, know what they want to achieve and know how I want to do it. We're all moving in the right direction."
