Lee Beevers today completed his switch to Walsall after turning down a host of clubs to join the Saddlers.

The defender has penned a one-year contract at the Banks's Stadium and becomes manager Dean Smith's sixth summer signing.

Beevers has been training with the club in Scotland this week and made his debut as a second-half sub in last night's 2-0 win at Greenock Morton.

And Beevers revealed he rejected several offers to join Smith's Saddlers revolution.

The former Wales under-21 international said: "There were a few other teams – around League One and Two – interested so it was a case of speaking to everyone, but Dean really sold it to me.

"After speaking to Dean and seeing what he wants to do, I just wanted to be part of it. It was an easy decision to come in and I want to get going.

"I'm delighted to come in and get a contract. It's been a while since we first started speaking, it's been four or five weeks, it's been a while getting sorted but it's done now."

Smith has been hunting a new defender and Beevers, who was released by Colchester at the end of last season, fits the bill.

The 27-year-old can play anywhere across the back four and in midfield.

The Saddlers boss said: "Lee has got versatility, definitely. He can play right-back ,centre-back and left back so he can slot in comfortably anywhere across the back four.

"He's a steady defender, very good on the ball and reads the game well.

"He's a good talker and organiser, he'll bring his experience to us."
