Walsall goalkeeper Jimmy Walker has slammed the Saddlers Plymouth horror show and branded their performance "shocking."

The team lost 2-0 at rock-bottom Argyle in their crunch relegation battle on Saturday to remain third bottom, three points from the safety line.

They failed to turn up at Home Park as Dagenham & Redbridge, Swindon and Tranmere all won to turn up the heat at the foot of League One.

And Walker admitted the Saddlers blew their chance to escape the drop zone with their no-show.

He said: "We know we let ourselves down. Sometimes things don't go for you, but it wasn't there for us and perhaps there was a lack of desire which was unacceptable.

"The break didn't do us any favours but we can't make any excuses for it. We were shocking, the less said about it the better.

"Let's put it to bed and now we've got six cup finals which are massive games for us. I won't mention Plymouth again.

"We let everyone down - the fans who travelled, the management and ourselves. We are very disappointed."

Walker made a string of fine saves to keep the Saddlers level before Yannis Bolasie and, a late finish from Rory Patterson, kept Plymouth's survival hopes alive.

The 37-year-old will make his 500th Walsall appearance tomorrow when Brentford visit the Banks's Stadium, the first of three straight home games.

And Walker backed the Saddlers to handle the pressure of their last six matches - but admitted they must raise their game.

He said: "We know what we've got to do but it's down to the lads in the changing room to put it right. It helps we're at home. There's a shift in focus sometimes, but they are massive games.

"As a footballer they are the games you want to be playing in, there's a bit of pressure. You want a bit of pressure and that's what we're made for. We have got to dig in again now, we have got to go straight back in.

"We can do that, we've shown before after a bad performance we've managed to bounce straight back and that's what we've got to do."
