Walsall striker Jon Macken faces a race to be fit for Friday's League One trip to Milton Keynes Dons.

Manager Dean Smith has admitted the 33-year-old is rated 50-50 for the trip after a calf injury, having yet to train since limping off after just 16 minutes of Saturday's 5-2 win over Hartlepool.

The Saddlers boss will definitely be without defender Aaron Lescott again with a knee injury but hasn't given up hope on Macken.

Smith said: "We're still assessing Jon but we're hopeful. He's played a lot of games and it's a well known fact he didn't have a pre-season.

"At Jon's age you start feeling a few niggles so that's what it is - a few war wounds.

"He's 50-50 at the moment and our physio Jason Chidwick will assess him, assistant Jon Whitney will also have a look and hopefully he will be ready to train tomorrow."
