Skipper Andy Butler today revealed he is using past pain to fan the flames of Walsall's revival.

The skipper doesn't want a second relegation on his CV after suffering the drop from the Championship with Scunthorpe in 2008.

The Saddlers are in a six-way battle for survival at the bottom of League One and Butler insisted one relegation is too many.

He said: "Nobody wants to get relegated. No-one wants that on your CV. I did experience relegation one season at Scunthorpe and I don't plan to go down again.

"We've just got to ensure that it remains in our hands. We don't want to be relying on other results. At the moment, that's the case."

He believes the Saddlers have done themselves proud after being eight points from safety at the start of the year.

"When I first came here, things didn't look great but we've now given ourselves a fighting chance. To be in the mix now is a massive credit to the manager and all the lads," said the 27-year-old.

"We've got confidence. Everyone outside the club probably thought we were down and out a couple of months ago, but we've worked hard to get ourselves into a position where we are right in the mix."
