New-boy Tom Williams is hoping old habits die hard in his Walsall debut - after revealing he is unbeaten at the Banks's Stadium.

The 30-year-old former Birmingham player signed for Dean Smith's side yesterday and could figure in tonight's relegation 'six-pointer' against Dagenham & Redbridge.

And he said: "I've played here at the Banks's Stadium a few times over the years with various clubs and I don't think that I've been on the losing side.

"It's been quite a successful place for me personally, so long may that continue. I just want to play my part in helping Walsall stay in League One.

"That is my only aim right now. Everyone seems positive and determined, so that will help us. I'm really looking forward to the challenge here.

"I know League One well - it's a very competitive league at both ends of the table. It's really tight at the moment and we have to try to be as consistent as we can.

"This is a big game. Dagenham are down there fighting for points as well, but I enjoy evening games under the floodlights and can't wait to be involved."

The Saddlers will start tonight's match second-from-bottom of League One, just one point behind third-from-bottom Dagenham.

But victory would take Smith's men to within two points of the safety line and the manager has called on the Banks's Stadium faithful to maintain their recent vocal support.

He said: "As a local lad, I know what the people are like around here and the supporters will reward players who show hard work, effort and good football.

"They've been getting behind the lads because they've been seeing those qualities and if we do the same tonight, we'll come away with three points.

"Dagenham won at the weekend so it's a tough game for us but I've said to the lads it's one I believe we can win.

"Looking at the bottom half of the table, 10 points covers most teams and we have put ourselves in with a fighting chance."
