Matt Gill has warned Walsall's drop rivals that the Saddlers are on the goal trail as they prepare to launch a survival offensive.

The 6-1 romp over Bristol Rovers on Saturday moved the club off the bottom of League One and kept them in the hunt to beat the drop.

Ahead of tomorrow's trip to Notts County, Norwich loanee Gill insisted the Saddlers are thriving under boss Dean Smith.

The midfielder said: "The lads aren't lacking confidence and the more times you put yourself in decent positions the more chances you're going to get and take – and we did that on Saturday.

"It was good and hopefully we can take it into Wednesday. All the lads have been very positive and, with the way the gaffer has us set up, we are playing attacking football and it was important to get the result.

"Against Exeter we had enough chances to win so we came away a little disappointed. Last Tuesday night we had a battle against a good Oldham team and Saturday they all went in.

"Maybe we could have saved a few for tomorrow, but I'm sure we'll be fine."

The second-bottom Saddlers could return to the foot of the table if Dagenham & Redbridge beat Brentford tonight – with Walsall not playing until tomorrow because of County's 1-1 FA Cup draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

The Magpies beat the Saddlers 3-0 on New Year's Day, but Gill is just focused on hitting some form.

He said: "They are new into the league but it will be a good opportunity to go there, do well and continue what we have been doing.

"They had a big game on Sunday and I know a few boys were watching it. It's another game for us and the lads would always rather play than train. I had three last week and it's good for my fitness.

"The games are coming thick and fast which is good."
