Walsall have today swooped for Carlisle hot-shot Jason Price as they boosted their survival bid.

The striker is available, subject to clearance, for tomorrow's visit of Bristol Rovers after signing for a month.

Manager Dean Smith has been hunting the forward this month and finally got his man and Price, who has scored 86 goals in 479 appearances, is relishing the challenge with the rock-bottom Saddlers.

He said: "I knew Walsall were interested and a couple of League Two clubs were also interested but Walsall were a better option for me.

"They might be bottom but Walsall are still in League One and I spoke to the boss and they are playing well but just can't score.

"If you are playing well it's something to look forward to. If you're playing rubbish and losing it's a different story.

"I haven't been playing at Carlisle and I needed to get some games. My contract is up at the end of the season so I need a club. I need to score goals so people recognise me.

"I'm not prolific but I get goals and always have a good start with every club I go to."

Price has scored just two goals this season – one during a loan spell with Bradford – after struggling to hold down a regular place at Brunton Park.

And the 33-year-old revealed his frustration with his lack of chances under Greg Abbott.

He said: "I think my time is up there as I haven't started a game this season. When I signed last season I scored four goals in eight games so I thought I would be starting this season.

"It has been frustrating, especially when you're coming on for four or five minutes and thinking 'this is rubbish'."

Price was on the verge of joining the Saddlers in 2009 under ex-manager Chris Hutchings before joining Millwall at the 11th hour.

He said: "I was going to come but it was too good an offer to resist from Millwall. I chose that but obviously it backfired!"

The Welshman scored in the Saddlers' 1-1 draw at Carlisle in May last year, but will not be able to play against his parent club when Walsall travel north next Saturday.
