Will Grigg has admitted Walsall's season is now make or break - but believes the heat is off the Saddlers.

The striker expects the players to ignore their situation - seven points adrift of safety at the bottom of League One - as they bid to escape the drop.

The managerless Saddlers are in limbo with the club confirming they are yet to speak any candidates and caretaker manager Dean Smith unsure about whether to apply over two weeks after Chris Hutchings was sacked.

They go to Exeter on Saturday still winless in 2011 after three defeats and two draws but Grigg insisted the players are focused.

He said: "There's not really any pressure on us, it's either all or nothing now. We've just got to concentrate on getting out of it and trying to play with confidence.

"We've got to fight for it and we're going into every game looking to win. It's about the results, we know we have to get out there and get three points so it's a battle all the time.

"I've only just broken into the first team and this is the first experience I've had, this is a challenge and we have to build on it.

"Everyone is focused on getting out of it but we've got to prove it."

Grigg and Jonathan Macken have started the last two games but have just five goals between them this season.

And Grigg, who bagged his first senior strike in the 2-2 draw at Bristol Rovers last week, admits the pair have got to start scoring more.

He said: "We've been scoring goals as a team and we can take confidence from that. Matt Richards has been coming up with the goals as well but, as a striker, we have got to score and have to take that responsibility.

"Scoring goals is what we are there for, we get paid to do it."
