Walsall new-boy Andy Butler has insisted the Saddlers' desperate plight isn't the "end of the world" and they can beat the odds.
Walsall new-boy Andy Butler has insisted the Saddlers' desperate plight isn't the "end of the world" and they can beat the odds.
The defender also revealed the team don't look at the table or talk about the drop despite being rock bottom of League One – eight points from safety.
Butler, who signed on a free transfer on Friday, made his debut in Saturday's dire 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth which left the team with just one win from their last 15 games.
Management and players came under fire from fans as they boarded the team bus after the game but Butler believes they can recover from another setback.
He said: "There are teams in this division worse than we are. It's not the end of the world where we are at the moment but we need to get some positive results.
"It looks bad but if you string a few results together and you know how the league is, you're on a roll and no one talks about relegation again.
"It's not difficult, I've been in this situation before. When I first started at Scunthorpe we were bottom of League Two so it's nothing new."
The 27-year-old also admitted the players, who have won just three games all season, don't speak about their situation.
He said: "No one mentions it. There are still 30 games of the season left, there are still a hell of a lot of points to play for and no one is panicking yet.
"We can't be down about it, we have to get on with it.
"You wouldn't think we were down there, the lads work hard every day but it's about getting that first result and getting that bit of confidence and going from there.
"Everyone has to dig in, that one positive result we get will be a step up and everyone will be happy."
Josh McQuoid's hat-trick sunk the Saddlers at Dean Court as the visitors failed to trouble home goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.
But Butler, who helped Blackpool to promotion from the Championship while on loan from Huddersfield last season, wants the Saddlers to echo the Seasiders' character.
He said: "It's just about team spirit, at Blackpool we didn't have the best players but team spirit took us through.
"The lads need to battle for each other and who knows what we can achieve."
