Goalkeeper Jonny Brain has insisted Walsall's flops are still the men to save the Saddlers' horror season.

The 27-year-old is adamant the club – who haven't won in seven League One games – will drag themselves off the bottom of the table.

They host Exeter on Saturday knowing defeat could seal the fate of under-pressure manager Chris Hutchings, with fans demanding his dismissal.

The club have failed to back the boss this week but Brain, who has kept just one clean sheet this season, reckons they can turn a corner.

He said: "There's light at the end of the tunnel. We just need to win a game and it will trigger the season.

"There is a lot of confidence within the camp and a lot of good players here, we're more than confident we can get out of it.

"It's not a case of us struggling every week and the performances being terrible, there have been a few games we've lost which we could have won. The inner belief is there.

"The last place we want to be is bottom and you're only going to get out of it by winning games. It's one game as it comes now and Exeter is the next one. We'll be trying everything to get something from it and start climbing the table.

"We know it can turn just like that and the sooner it happens the better."

But Brain admitted places are in danger and the players risk being ditched, with Hutchings primed to bring in loan reinforcements.

He said: "There is a certain amount of pressure because we're under achieving. We know we can do better but it's how we go about it.

"The pressure is on us because we've under achieved, it's about gelling and going out there and getting the result."

Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Yeovil sent the Saddlers, who haven't won since August, bottom and Brain told of how the whole club is hurting.

He said: "We have to deal with it and it's horrible when you lose, the worst part of football. When you're on a run like us it's not great.

"We keep saying the only thing we can do is to go out and do something about it."
