Andy Thorn targets new signings for Kidderminster Harriers as Joe Lolley seals Huddersfield deal

New Kidderminster boss Andy Thorn was today plotting January transfer raids after FA Cup hero Joe Lolley completed his £250,000 move to Huddersfield.

Lolley signed off his Harriers career by netting the winner in Tuesday's 3-2 third-round giant-killing at Peterborough to set up a fourth-round trip to Premier League Sunderland. And Thorn is already planning to reinvest some of the cash after the 21-year-old completed his dream climb from the Midland Combination to the Championship by signing for the Terriers in a deal confirmed by Harriers last night.

"I already have a couple of players lined up who will come in to help and improve the squad," said Thorn. "That is something we have been on the front foot with, obviously knowing what would happen with Joe. I'm quite happy with the way things are."

And Thorn, who insisted he does not expect any more players to leave Aggborough this month, has received the backing of chairman Mark Serrell to sign his own men after his side set up a lucrative trip to the Stadium of Light.

Serrell has also hinted at a sizeable sell-on clause to ensure Kidderminster are rewarded if Lolley continues his meteoric rise.

Serrell said: "Obviously it's a blow to lose Joe from the squad but the manager has been busy identifying his own targets and we hope to at least one or two of those joining us very shortly.

"We have worked hard again to strengthen the long-term stability of the club. Anyone who is concerned that Joe's departure reflects negatively on our ambition to achieve promotion to the Football League this season should be assured that we're working to guarantee that in the long run it is exactly the opposite. I think I made it quite clear recently that Kidderminster Harriers was not in a position where it needed to sell any player so this isn't about us simply gaining a large sum of money very quickly."

Striker Michael Gash, meanwhile, today backed Lolley to go to the "very top". Lolley has hit 11 goals in 27 appearances for Harriers after being spotted during a prolific spell for Littleton.

"Coming out of the Conference I would put him up with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Steve Morison," said Gash.

"There are a lot of Conference players who have gone into the league but I would say he is definitely up there with those too. He's up there with the best, definitely.

"He's a young lad who came from a very low division on trial. There have been numerous scouts at games watching him and I believe he can go to the very top."
