The club, based at Pride Park in Great Wyrley, is understood to have been unhappy following their transfer to the NWCFL from the Midland Football League by the FA.

League officials confirmed that Wolverhampton Sporting officially resigned on Tuesday, February 3. Their playing record will be expunged, and all player registrations cancelled.

The resignation comes after a difficult start to the campaign, in which Wolves Sporting won just one league match and lost their previous eight. Their last outing was a 3-1 defeat at Market Drayton Town on January 31.

Fixtures against New Mills, due to be played on February 3, and Cammell Laird 1907, scheduled for this weekend, had already been postponed.

A spokesperson for the NWCFL said: "They have resigned from the league effective from February 3, 2026.

"As per league rules their playing record will be expunged and all player registrations cancelled, this will be applied from February 10."

The spokesperson added that the club was unhappy with their transfer from the Midland Football League by the FA in the 2024/25 season.

Founded in 2001, the club began as a works team for Chubb Locks and Safe before being renamed Heath Town Rangers following the factory's closure. Early success at youth level led to entry into the West Midlands League, where they won the youth division in 2006/07 and quickly progressed into senior football.

Sporting enjoyed rapid success, winning the Staffordshire Challenge Cup and the Division Two title in their first season, before achieving back-to-back promotions to the Premier Division.

The club then adopted its current name, Wolverhampton Sporting Community, ahead of the 2010/11 campaign.

A landmark 2017/18 season saw Sporting lift both the League Cup and Premier Division title, earning promotion to the Midland League Premier Division. However, relegation followed after just one season. The club moved into Midland League Division One in 2021 and, after three seasons, transferred to the North West Counties League in 2024.

League rivals Stafford Town expressed their sadness at the news on social media, wishing Wolverhampton Sporting well for the future.
