Warning of lengthy ‘depressing’ journey as Ian Long urges Rushall to stay consistent
Ian Long hopes his Rushall Olympic can avoid a “long and depressing” journey home from Morpeth Town as he called for greater consistency.
The Pics make the 420 mile round trip tomorrow looking to extend their three-game unbeaten run in the Northern Premier League.
Rushall’s recent upturn has lifted them seven points clear of the relegation zone - where Morpeth currently sit - and boss Long admitted the journey back will feel even longer if they return empty-handed.
“Our away record is not too bad, it is better than our home record at the moment,” said Long, whose Pics have won three of their five games on the road.
“We are three unbeaten, we were disappointed not to take all three points against Workington last weekend.
“We will be looking to try and keep this little bit of a run and momentum going, and get something on the board after a long trip.
“We have defended really well, putting our bodies on the line, not so much against Workington though. We are just lacking a bit of consistency, we are not consistent over 90 minutes, let alone games.
“We have got to improve on it, in games, and longer term. But, we have got the three positive results and we will try and build on it.
“We would have a few beers and a drink on the coach if we get a positive result.
“But, if you don’t get that, it is a long and depressing journey home, so hopefully the lads will be focused and make sure we have a nice curve home.”
The Pics saw off Brocton to progress in the Staffordshire Senior Cup midweek - a competition they have won four times since 2013/14.
Asked if he is hoping to take the Pics to glory, Long added: “Hopefully yes, it is nice to have a cup final to look forward to. But we have a lot of work to do before we can even think about that.”
Elsewhere, second-placed Hednesford Town host Cleethorpes Town looking to secure their fifth consecutive league win.
