Gavin Hurren left 'frustrated' as Hednesford Town held by resilient Billericay Town in tense FA Cup tie

Gavin Hurren was left "frustrated" and craving more "entertainment" after his Hednesford Town side were forced to an FA Cup replay with Billericay Town.

Despite more than 100 minutes of action, neither side was able to break the deadlock in front of more than 2,000 fans at Keys Park on Saturday.

In a match that lacked real quality until the closing stages, Hednesford created several late chances but were denied by a resilient Billericay defence. The Pitmen will now travel to Essex on Tuesday night for a third qualifying round replay, with a place in the fourth qualifying round at stake.

"It was frustrating," admitted Hednesford boss Hurren. "I thought we set up well, coming off the back of a good run, and being at home.

"I really wanted it to be a bit more entertaining, but sometimes when teams come here, they set up a certain way and it becomes frustrating.

"They slowed the game down, hence why there were 11 minutes added on. I thought there should have been a few more at half-time too.

"We’ve kept a clean sheet and could have won it at the end. We had a few opportunities in the second half and their goalkeeper made some great saves.

"But we’ll go down there and go head-to-head on Tuesday, and we’ll make sure we do everything we can to come away with the win."

The Pitmen found it difficult to break down a resolute Billericay defence. The visitors applied early pressure, but Hednesford rallied late on, with Dominic McHale and Joe Doyle-Charles both seeing powerful efforts brilliantly saved.

Hurren added: "The lads gave their all, did we play to our strengths? Maybe not.

"We didn’t move the ball quickly enough at times. But they set up with five at the back and made it difficult to break down.

"Unfortunately, we just couldn’t find the breakthrough."
