The score-line remained goalless until the 81st-minute when Jordan Stevens curled a 25-yard free-kick beyond the reach of Hednesford goalkeeper Tony Breeden.

Gavin Hurren's charges were handed a lifeline midway into six minutes of stoppage time when they were awarded a penalty for handball.

Dan Turner converted from the spot and Dom McHale clinched all three points in the final seconds to send the Pitmen to within just two points of the Northern Premier summit.

Ilkeston full-back Colin Daniel was shown a red card just moments before McHale's match-winner in a frantic finale.

Hednesford leapfrogged local rivals Rushall Olympic who dropped to fifth-place after settling for a goalless draw at Warrington Town.

Reece Daley struck the crossbar for the hosts during the first half, before Fenton Heard was forced off injured for the Pics on the cusp of half-time.

Warrington had a goal ruled out 20 minutes from time when Enock Lusiama bundled home from close-range, only to see his celebrations cut short by the offside flag.

Since winning three in a row in August, Rushall have failed to win any of their last four in the league, drawing three in the process (losing once).

Halesowen saw their winless run extended to four games in the Southern Central Premier after falling to a 1-0 defeat at Alvechurch.

Alvechurch loanee Jose Marquez scored with what proved to be the winner two minutes before the break.

The hosts had struck the crossbar twice inside the opening 20 minutes through Josh Dugmore and Jonny Ngandu, and did so for a third time when Dieter Schwarm smashed against the frame of the goal late on.
