If Harriers were looking to summon the memories of their opening away game of the season ahead of this match, it certainly appeared to work early on.

While there was no sign that the reds were running rampant over Nuneaton, they certainly controlled the opening stages enough to ensure the sixth-minute lead they took was fully deserved.

It owed much in part to the work of Tyrell Waite who tangled the feet of two defenders inside the area before seeing his shot blocked – James McQuilkin following up on the loose ball to arrow it past a crowd of bodies and into the net off the inside of the post.

While the home side responded with a shot from David Morgan that needed tipping round the post, Mani Dieseruvwe went close to doubling the reds' lead with less than 20 on the clock as he let fly from distance, the ball just whizzing past the angle of bar and post.

McQuilkin almost added to his tally near the half-hour-mark as he connected well with a driven, grounded cross from Francis-Angol but at the death, stopper Burton stuck out his left boot to deny him and keep the score at one.
