Craig Bannister still leads the FA Cup goal charts
Striker Craig Bannister is in high spirits after finding out he will play his own small part in tomorrow's FA Cup final.
The Sporting Khalsa striker found the net nine times in the competition before they were defeated 3-1 in the fourth qualifying round by FC United of Manchester.
Former Albion striker Matej Vydra is noted as the top scorer in the FA Cup's proper rounds this season, with six.
But window fitter Bannister is recognised as the overall top scorer – and has it confirmed in the official match-day programme.
When asked how it feels to have his name alongside English football's elite, he said: "It is a proud moment for me, one that I can tell my kids about when they are older that's for sure.
"I did not expect to be mentioned. I did not think they would look down as far as the extra preliminary round and the qualifying rounds, but I am really happy about it."
To put Bannister's tally into perspective, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial would have to score eight in the final against Crystal Palace to beat it.
Bannister, who is a United fan, added: "I will be happy if Martial scores a hat-trick."
