The Villa playmaker finished emphatically at the end of an intricate move to score his eighth goal of the season in the Premier League.

Emi Martinez was forced into a string of saves before Rayan headed another chance against the post.

The Brazilian teenager opened his account after the break to force a share of the spoils and Rogers suggested the result was a fair reflection.

"We're a bit disappointed after going 1-0 ahead. You want to try and see the game out, and even add to the lad," Rogers told the club.

"We had chances to do that, it was a very open game. Both teams got into the box and created chances, but they were miles better than us in the second half.

"They deserved to get back into the game, so we'll take the point and move forward."

Arsenal extended their lead at the Premier League summit after beating Sunderland 3-0 to go nine points clear.

"It's just disappointing. They're a really good team at home, they play with a lot of energy, a lot of pace, and they get the ball into the box and cause problems," he added.

"We stood up for the most part but when they were piling on pressure, one sometimes goes into the net."
