Aston Villa reportedly keeping tabs on useful squad option
Villa are reportedly weighing up a move for versatile defender Oscar Mingueza as a handy squad option.
Mingueza, 26, could be available for a cut-price fee of around £9million this month as the Celta Vigo stalwart is out of contract in the summer.
The 6ft defender, a four-cap Spain international, is capable of playing on the right and in the centre of defence.
Mingueza is a product of the Barcelona academy and played 66 times for the first team before moving to Vigo in 2022, where he has since become a key player and made more than 100 appearances.
It is suggested the versatile defender could agree a long-term deal at Villa Park and provide useful competition and cover for Unai Emery's squad.
There is interest from Premier League rivals, however, with both Newcastle and West Ham tracking La Masia graduate Mingueza.
Villa signed another Spanish right-sided defender, Andres Garcia, from Levante two summers ago but he has been made to play second fiddle to Matty Cash and Garcia has appeared just 12 times - and only twice this season - in the 18 months since his arrival.
