Chelsea 3 Aston Villa 0 - player ratings
Matt Maher rates the players after Aston Villa fall to a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea.
Emi Martinez
Conceded twice before going off injured at the break and almost gifted the hosts a couple more. Not his finest 45 minutes.
Lapses 5
Matty Cash
Got a bit unlucky with the opener when the ball flicked off his boot and sat up perfectly for Jackson. Not too many chances to get forward.
Quiet 6
Ezri Konsa
Back in the team following injury but joined in with the errors when he allowed a long ball to escape him in the second half.
Error 5
Pau Torres
Rushed on the ball at times in the first half. Made some good tackles as well. Came close to scoring a late consolation in stoppage time.
Hurried 5
Lucas Digne
There were long spells you forgot Pedro Neto was on the pitch, which is a compliment to the left-back. Didn’t get forward much at all.
Steady 6
Boubacar Kamara
Deserved to keep his place in the team after his performance against Juventus but he found it much tougher here in a match which far more pace.
Battled 6
Youri Tielemans
Villa’s best player in the opening two months of the season is experiencing his own sticky patch. Caught on the ball too many times.
Sluggish 5
Jaden Philogene
Caught out for the opener and always looked a beat behind the action. Got a deserved booking for a rather embarrassing dive which summed up his day.
Lost 5
Morgan Rogers
Struggling to get anywhere close to the heights he was hitting at the start of the season. Taken off midway through the second half.
Tired 5
John McGinn
Tried to get Villa motoring but to no avail. Set up Watkins’ early chance with a neat ball over the top but was then denied himself in the second half.
Tried 6
Ollie Watkins
Will feel he should have scored at least one but shot weakly at Sanchez early on before then being denied by a sharp stop.
Misses 5
