Reports last night suggested Terry, who had been some bookies’ favourite to take over at the Vitality Stadium, was no longer in the running .

Instead, reports from the south coast suggested fellow candidates David Wagner and Patrick Vieira were the front-runners for the position.

Ex-Cherries boss Harry Redknapp, who has been advising current caretaker Woodgate, suggested earlier this week the Villa assistant would be an ideal candidate for the Championship club.

Bournemouth were relegated after finishing a point and place behind Villa last season.

Villa boss Dean Smith has always insisted he would not stand in Terry’s way should he want to take up a managerial job, however, reports claimed compensation due to Villa if Terry left now was a factor in the decision.
