Aston Villa closing in on Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson in £15.5million deal
Villa are closing in on the signing of Morgan Sanson after agreeing a fee with Marseille for the midfielder.
The 26-year-old is poised to join Villa for an initial £14million, which could eventually rise to £15.5m with add-ons.
Sanson will travel to Birmingham next week to complete the deal, though it is believed personal terms have already been agreed.
Villa have taken a pragmatic approach to the January window and believe the deal for Sanson, who was valued at £30m by Marseille as recently as last summer, represents good business.
The impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the collapse of the French TV deal has prompted Marseille to lower their price and though Villa’s initial offer was rejected earlier in the week, the clubs have now reached agreement.
Sanson will become Villa’s first signing of the window and bolster their midfield department following the departure of Conor Hourihane on loan to Swansea.
