Aston Villa donate food and drinks to NHS
Villa have donated nearly 2,000 items of food and drink to hospitals for NHS staff during the coronavirus pandemic.
A total of 1,300 fizzy drinks, 300 packets of crisps and 200 chocolate bars were supplied to staff at five hospitals earlier this week.
The items came from the food kiosks at Villa Park and would otherwise have gone to waste before being given to the University Hospitals Birmingham Charity’s warehouse and Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust’s City Hospital on Wednesday.
Around 40 security barriers typically used on matchdays have, meanwhile, been provided to the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals.
The barriers will help the hospital to segregate people upon entry to the hospital, safely and effectively managing the flow of people entering and leaving the hospital in line with social distancing guidelines.
Guy Rippon, head of the club’s charitable arm the Villa Foundation, said: “We’ve all seen how hard doctors, nurses and NHS staff are working to combat the spread of Coronavirus, and they need all the support they can get right now.
“We’ve been in constant dialogue with key stakeholders in the city about ways that we can provide support where it is most needed.
“Aston Villa will always look to support the needs of its community, where possible, and this week has provided two instances of that.”
