Reports: Thierry Henry wanted to replace Steve Bruce at Aston Villa
Thierry Henry has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Steve Bruce at Villa Park, it has been reported.
Billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens agreed a deal to take a controlling stake of Villa on Friday.
The club stressed the management team, led by Steve Bruce, remained focused on 'strengthening the squad'.
However reports suggest the new hierarchy are already pondering a change, with the former France and Arsenal legend top of their list.
Henry quit his role at Sky Sports earlier this week to “fulfil my long-term ambition to become a football manager.”
It is thought the Frenchman would prefer a Premier League job, but could be tempted with the challenge at Villa.
The 40-year-old had been working as assistant to Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national team, helping them finish third at this summer's World Cup.
