Aston Villa plotting Lewis Grabban deadline day deal
Villa are working on a deadline day loan swoop for Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban.
The 30-year-old has emerged as a target for boss Steve Bruce as he looks to bolster his forward department for the Championship run-in.
Grabban scored 12 goals in 19 appearances for Sunderland in the second tier earlier this season.
He has not featured for the Cherries since returning to the south coast at the start of the month and it is thought he could be available on a temporary deal.
Cardiff, another club eyeing promotion to the Premier League, are also thought to be interested.
Bruce had initially targeted Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa this month but the Argentine forward instead moved to Brighton.
Utility man Axel Tuanzebe remains Villa’s only signing of the window to date.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged defender and fan favourite Alan Hutton will be leaving the club this summer when his contract expires.
It is understood the Scot, Villa’s second longest serving current player behind Gabriel Agbonlahor, has been told he will not be offered new deal.
Hutton was signed by then Villa boss Alex McLeish in the summer of 2011 and at one point did not play a first-team match for more than two years, after being frozen out by Paul Lambert.
This season he has enjoyed some of his most consistent form for the club, despite playing in the unfamiliar position of left-back.
