Lee Johnson: We will use Aston Villa mocking as ammunition

Boss Lee Johnson vowed to use Bristol City's chastening defeat to Villa as motivation - after accusing opposition supporters of “mocking” his team.

Johnson also took issue with the touchline antics of opposite number Steve Bruce following City’s 5-0 New Year’s Day trouncing at Villa Park.

The victory was Villa’s biggest for more than four-and-a-half years but Johnson, whose team still sit a place and three points above Bruce’s men in the Championship, did not take kindly to the mood among home fans.

"It was interesting to hear the Villa fans mocking us, Bruce flicking the ball all over the gaffe,” he said.

“We're still three points above them. Let's see where we are at the end. We've got to use that as ammunition."

City’s defeat at Villa Park came just 48 hours after they suffered a last-gasp 2-1 home defeat to Wolves.

Robert Snodgrass blasted a brace for Villa, while Scott Hogan scored his first league goal of the campaign and Birkir Bjarnason netted his first for the club.

Conor Hourihane was also on the mark as Villa recorded their biggest win since the 6-1 win over Sunderland in April 2013.
