Blues skipper Paul Robinson will play no further part in the club's battle against relegation after being handed a three-game ban for his derby clash with Villa captain James Chester.

The 38-year-old defender had denied an FA charge of violent conduct but was found guilty by following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

With Blues sat just two points above the Championship relegation zone, Robinson will miss the remaining fixtures against Huddersfield and Bristol City, as well as the first game of next season.

The veteran was shown lashing out at Chester seconds after Gabriel Agbonlahor had scored the only goal of Sunday's derby at Villa Park.

Though the incident was missed by referee Simon Hooper and his assistants at the time, it was later picked up by supporters on social media and the FA decided to bring charges after reviewing video evidence.

Villa owner Tony Xia had led the calls for the FA to take action against Robinson, tweeting a link to the video of the incident and describing it as "unacceptable" and "disgusting".
