James Bree: Aston Villa must start taking chances
James Bree has admitted Villa must start taking their chances if they want to further climb the Championship table.
Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield ended a three-game winning run for Steve Bruce's team.
Terriers skipper Tommy Smith's second half strike proved enough for the hosts to claim victory but only after Villa had missed several chances to go in front themselves.
Conor Hourihane fired over with just keeper Joel Coleman to beat, while Henri Lansbury hit the bar.
Bree also brought a save out of Coleman in the opening minutes and admitted the overall mood in the dressing room was one of frustration.
"I think we played really well on the night and had the better chances," he said. "They had one chance and took it and that happens in football. We just have to be more clinical.
"We have to take our chances the next game.
"I think you go through those spells when they don't drop for you and you don't get lucky. We have hit the post, had chances. It will all come together at some point and when it does we will be banging the goals in."
Villa's had recorded consecutive wins over Derby, Bristol City and Rotherham to ease fears of relegation after a ten-game winless run.
Bree, one of eight new players to arrive at the club during the January transfer window, believes Tuesday's performance was further evidence things are finally coming together for boss Steve Bruce's new-look side.
"You can see we are pressing a lot better," he said. "The team knows what we are doing and I think it is all coming together. I think we can kick on now.
"We just need to keep winning and see how far we can get."
The 19-year-old is now aiming to keep his place for Saturday's visit of Sheffield Wednesday to Villa Park. Bree, who joined in a £1.4million move from Barnsley, made his second start for the club at Huddersfield after Alan Hutton was ruled out with a knee injury and admits the Scot's impressive recent form is a source of motivation.
"Huts has had an injury so it was the chance for me to come back in," he said. "When he comes back we will see what happens. It will be a nice competition between me and him.
"There is a lot more to come from me. This season I feel I have become more solid and my performances are a lot more consistent.
"Once I have that I can add a few more things. I'd like to add a few more goals to my game."
