Ross McCormack slams Aston Villa fitness jibe

Ross McCormack has admitted missing training at Villa because of faulty electric gates but hit back at claims over his fitness.

The striker, who joined Nottingham Forest on loan on deadline day, admitted his form since a £12million move from Fulham last summer has not been good enough.

But he took issue with the claim, made last month by Villa boss Steve Bruce, that he was "nowhere near" fit enough.

"It is all nonsense," said McCormack. "I am probably four or five kilos lighter than I was when I got in the Championship team of the season last year at Fulham. It is ludicrous. Personally, I know I have not been good enough."

Bruce also accused the Scot of having missed several training sessions, including in one instance when the gates to his property wouldn't open. McCormack confirmed the story was true but disputed the reported height of his fence.

"The fence is taller than me," he said. "It was icy, raining, I made that decision myself not to go over the fence. People say you should have jumped over the fence but what happens over the other side? What if I rolled my ankle, what if I had done my knee?"

Meanwhile, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has criticised McCormack following his move to Nottingham Forest on Twitter.

The outspoken former owner tweeted: "Having electric gates at my house I know you can disable them and open manually, player is a lazy slob end of #avfc well done Brucey".

Jordan is vocal on Twitter, most recently criticising West Brom on the social media platform.
