The Ghana international is being targeted by Premier League strugglers Swansea in a deal which may see left-back Neil Taylor and winger Modou Barrow move in the opposite direction to Villa Park.

Swansea boss Paul Clement wants Ayew to bolster his strikeforce and, with Villa valuing the 25-year-old at £9million, the Welsh club are prepared to offer Taylor and Barrow as makeweights in the deal.

Boss Steve Bruce, however, may prefer to use any funds raised from a sale to try and revive a deal for Middlesbrough's Jordan Rhodes, his top striker target. Villa had a bid of £6million with add-ons for the 26-year-old rejected earlier in the month.

Bruce is also willing to let £12million striker Ross McCormack depart with a loan move most likely, while midfielder Aaron Tshibola is reported to be a loan target for Nottingham Forest.

Villa are, meanwhile, understood to be closing in on the signing of Bury's Jacob Bedeau after agreeing a fee of around £1million with the League One club for the 17-year-old defender.
