Aston Villa transfer news: Keith Wyness hints at 'hectic' end to January window

Chief executive Keith Wyness has told Villa supporters to get ready for a "hectic" end to the transfer window – as Jack Grealish emerged as a surprise target for Premier League Middlesbrough.

Grealish is understood to be on Boro boss Aitor Karanka's wishlist, though any approach for the 21-year-old would depend on the north-east club failing to land either Jese Rodriguez from Paris St-Germain or Stoke City's Bojan Krkic, their top targets.

It remains unclear, at this stage, how Villa would respond to any formal offer being made though Grealish, who is contracted through to summer 2020, would command a significant fee.

A busy month to date has seen five players arrive at Villa Park and three depart and further movement is expected before Tuesday night's deadline as boss Steve Bruce aims to build a squad fit and firing for a late play-off dash.

Out-of-favour striker Ross McCormack could depart on loan while Villa are also willing to let Jordan Ayew depart for the right price, with Bruce needing to move players put before he can bring more in.

Wyness made clear the club's intention to keep working yesterday when he tweeted: "Strapping our seat belts on for a hectic ride to the end, must be right deals though."
