January transfer news: Aston Villa confirm signing of Birkir Bjarnason
Aston Villa have signed Icelandic international midfielder Birkir Bjarnason from FC Basel.
The 28-year-old has joined Villa from the Swiss club, for which he scored sixteen league goals over the past two seasons.
The former Pescara and Sampdoria player joins for an undisclosed fee on a three and a half year deal, keeping him at Villa Park until the summer of 2020.
"I'm delighted to have signed for Aston Villa." Bjarnason said, via the Aston Villa website.
"It's a very big club. I am now looking forward to getting out on to the pitch and helping the team."
He joins James Bree, Henri Lansbury and Sam Johnstone in joining Villa under Steve Bruce.
Also, Aston Villa's outspoken owner Tony Xia has hinted at two further signings on Twitter.
Following Bjarnason's confirmation, Xia tweeted "99%+50%going on... #AVFC #UTV @AVFCOfficial".
Xia has been vocal throughout the January transfer window, and has regularly tweeted regarding potential deals.
