Aston Villa transfer news: Steve Bruce on verge of double deal

Aston Villa misfit Ross McCormack has been ordered to train with the Villa academy squad as the claret and blues look to complete a double swoop on Barnsley's Conor Hourihane and James Bree.

Villa owner Tony Xia yesterday teased fans with a tweet which read "95%+95%" but was widely taken to refer to the deals for the Tykes duo.

However, the future of McCormack looks bleak at Villa with the striker having infuriated Steve Bruce with his attitude towards training.

Bruce made little attempt to disguise his ire at McCormack at the weekend after dropping him from the matchday squad for being unfit and revealing the striker's weak excuses for failing to make it to training, including claiming the gates at his home were stuck.

However, if McCormack is to exit Villa Park, it is likely to be on loan due to his high wages, thought to be in the region of £40,000-a-week. And Villa may have to pay a slice of that to subsidise a move away.

Meanwhile, reports in the north-west suggest a bid in the region of £750,000 for 17-year-old Bury defender Jacob Bedeau has been rejected.
