Steve Bruce hoping Ross McCormack can fill the gap at Aston Villa

Villa boss Steve Bruce is hoping Ross McCormack can rediscover his shooting boots to fill the gap left by top scorer Jonathan Kodjia.

McCormack has struggled for form since a £12million move from Fulham, netting just three goals.

The 30-year-old has an impressive pedigree in the Championship, having scored 42 times for the Cottagers over the course of the previous two campaigns.

Bruce hopes he can now start to show that kind of form with Kodjia currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

"It's fair to say it is his turn now," said Bruce. "Ross has had a difficult time, he has always found the Championship easy and this is the first time in four or five years he has found it difficult for one reason or another.

"I hope he can rediscover it, why we brought him here, get a goal or two. All strikers thrive off goals and he is the same."

He added: "I've seen enough of him over the years to know what Ross McCormack is all about.

"Let's hope in the second half of the season he can come good."
